Hello, yo, it's robo. :P The center ship is the phoenix, a time traveling, faster than light, last resort rebel ship. Between episodes 5 and 6 when Luke discovered Obi-Wan's journal he saw that if time travel were possible, the alliance could send someone back and kill the chancellor, then senator, palpatine and reverse the fate of the galaxy. Thus he initiated project Phoenix, Which would be a time traveling ship that would rise out of the ashes of the rebellion and go back and time and change everything, the only danger was that unseen dangers awaited if they did mess with the past.
