welcome to Asoka presents lightsaber effects with gimp. a few people have been askin for some help with this so I hope this helps heaps. first download gimp open gimp this will open three windows ,main,tools and layers. 1. go to file , open select pic from folder in pop up window select open or double click pic. 2. go to layers select new layer make sure its selected transparent click ok. 3. Now you can free select the light saber and paint white. 4.select Filter, select Alpha to Logo, select Neon a little Script-fu tag will appear click this to open the window. Select your colour And Effect size between 100 & 150 is ok make sure shadow is turned off select OK.wait for a bit and some thing like pic4 will appear DON'T FREAK OUT !! 5. Now go to layer window and select Neon Tubes layer go to colour picker and select brightest bit of lightsaber, with free select tool select area in the brightest part and paint with the selected colour. 6. Now Go to layer window and click the Eye icon next to Background#1 to turn the black off and presto! 7. VERY IMPORTANT click File, Click Save As, Name pic and with .JPG at end hit enter, Now it will tell you , you must Export YOU MUST so click Export, now it will ask you to save again click save once this is done you can close down or start another project hope this is a big help to all of you out there
